What will women’s lives look like if each candidate wins the presidential election?

Donald Trump-Republican

Trump says he wants to “"protect" women "whether the women like it or not.” But what does this even mean? Trump has already voiced his opinions on many issues related to women’s rights. If he’s elected, he will likely not support any policies or bills related to equality for women in the workforce, and equal pay for women, making it more difficult for them to make a living. Another way he may harm women in the workforce is limiting family leave policies which allow women to take care of their children. He has also already started defunding health organizations that benefit women, such as planned parenthood, which provide women with contraception. Trump has repeatedly voiced his opinion on women’s reproductive rights, and he will almost definitely further restrict access to reproductive health services and abortion services for women. He will continue to support a pro-life stance which is harmful to all women.

Kamala Harris-Democrat

Contrary to Trump, if Kamala Harris wins the election she will continue to support increased abortion access for women, as she has proven time and time again that she wants to expand access to abortion for women around the US. Harris will also likely increase Planned Parenthood’s funding, which will provide more reproductive care and contraception to women. Harris may also focus on supporting legislature that aims to close the gender pay gap, as well as more paid family leave for women. In addition to all of this, if Harris wins the election, her image as a woman of color in one of the most powerful and influential positions in the USA will inspire girls all over the country. Seeing someone who looks like them will remind the next generation of girls that they can do anything.
