The Birkin bag, a staple of celebrities all over the world due to its difficult-to-attain status and expensive price tag, actually has much humbler beginnings than one might think. In fact, it was originally drawn on an air sickness bag, after actress Jane Birkin was upgraded on a flight, and placed next to the director and CEO of Hermes. After her straw bag spilled out its contents all over the airplane floor, she remarked to her seatmate that she would buy from Hermes when they created a bag that could contain everything a busy mother like her needed, but was also stylish and secure. Dumas, the CEO of Hermes used her feedback and designed the first Birkin bag, gifting Jane Birkin one after its release in 1984. Now, A-List celebrities such as the Kardashians, Jennifer Lopez, and Kate Moss wear theirs on the daily.

Kate Spade is one of the most ionic handbag brands with its signature spade on each bag. Although they are not considered a high-end brand, their distinctive clean styled bags are affordable for the middle class. Collecting over 700 million dollars in sales, the fashion designer behind this success is a woman named Kate Spade. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Spade opened up a small boutique in SoHo Manhattan in 1993, where she launched her own line of handbags. Ever since then, millions of working women wear her bags because they are the quality of designer brands, but at a more affordable price.

Tory Burch first started her company in 2004 selling her iconic handbags and accessories like scarves and jewelry. The brand was launched in a boutique in Manhattan, where it gained recognition for its mix of a classic style and bold colors and prints. The brand became popular because of its luxury and accessibility. Over the years, Tory Burch expanded its products to fragrances, eye wear and tableware. Tory Burch is also involved in philanthropic efforts, notably through the Tory Burch Foundation, which supports the empowerment of women entrepreneurs through access to education, and networking opportunities. Tory Burch has received numerous awards for its contributions to fashion and entrepreneurship. Overall, Tory Burch’s influence on women extends beyond her fashion designs; she has become a symbol of empowerment, inspiring women to pursue their passions and become entrepreneurs.
